Despite it being the thing we do, talk about and think about every single day, a creative practice can be one of the hardest things to describe. This is something I have encountered time and time again in my work with both staff and students in Higher Education.

When I was working at Chelsea, I had the good fortune to support a workshop for the Graduate Diploma students led by Dr. Bridget Harvey. In it, Bridget used a deceptively simple heuristic to invite students to reflect on their practice at several different scales.

What struck me about this model was it’s ability to structure reflection on a complex topic in a systematic and simple way. I asked Bridget is she would mind me using it in other teaching and she said yes and I;ve gone on to bring it into a range of different content since.
